| Peruvians are well known for their weaving. Circa 900 bc (before the incas) a culture existed called the Paracas. The textiles from this era are considered the finest pre-Columbian textiles to have been produced anywhere in the Americas.
In Inca times many of the Kings had woven ponchos embroidered with solid gold plates. The symbols and designs in these rugs have provided archaeologists with a realistic and expressive picture of the everyday life of these ancient peoples. They still serve as a way to express the values and spiritual life of the present day "Campensinos", roughly translated as "country people", they are the modern Indians of Peru. |
