| Most Peruvian crafts are made in the highlands, like Cusco, and primarily by Campesinos (modern Peruvian Indians). Over the past 20 years, these traditional creations have enjoyed recognition and a surge in popularity that has greatly increased
the self-esteem of their producers.
The hand-carvings made by Campesinos often depict life in Peru. The ones displayed here are representations of themselves, their Gods, and their livelihood. The one appearing first is an icon andis called a "Tumi". Also depicted are hand carved Incas and the llama-like alpacas famous for their warm fur which the natives make into a variety of goods such as the rugs and clothing found in the rest of these pages.
